Tourism Class

Uganda, often called the "Pearl of Africa," boasts an extraordinary diversity of nature, cultures, and stories. In the heart of this unique environment, a tourism school is being established that goes far beyond traditional training. Our goal is not only to provide young people with technical training but also to develop them into responsible leaders of sustainable tourism in Africa.

The program combines in-depth knowledge with practical experience. Students engage intensively with African history, cultural diversity, and ecological interrelationships. At the same time, they acquire comprehensive knowledge of sustainable tourism, service management, and the responsible use of natural resources. The protection of national parks and the importance of biodiversity are central to the curriculum.

A special focus is placed on practical learning: excursions to national parks, internships in tourism-related businesses, and workshops in areas such as mechanics, first aid, and sustainability impart valuable skills for everyday professional life. In addition, participants have the opportunity to obtain a driver's license to expand their employment options in the tourism sector.

This school sees itself as a place of learning, encounter, and shaping the future. It creates opportunities – for the students, for their communities, and for tourism that is in harmony with people and nature.

School plan

1 year

theory

The first year of training lays the substantive and professional foundations for a career in tourism. Students begin with an introduction to tourism, travelers, and the role of guides, building upon this foundation to develop an understanding of the historical development of tourism – from its origins to the future. A particular focus is placed on Africa, and Uganda in particular: history, colonialism, and its impact are covered, as well as geography, national parks, and tourist attractions. This knowledge is complemented by in-depth insights into the animal kingdom – from the "Big Five" to other mammals, birds, insects, and reptiles. Practical experiences, such as excursions and a national park internship, as well as cultural topics like the diversity of Ugandan ethnic groups, round out the first year and foster a deep understanding of nature, culture, and tourism within the regional context.

2nd year

Practice and theory

In the second year, the focus shifts to practical application. Students deepen their knowledge in real-world contexts – for example, in Kampala, on primate tours, or through the development of sustainable projects. Sustainability is not only taught theoretically but actively implemented. Supplementary workshops, such as those in mechanics and first aid, prepare students for the specific demands of their professional lives. Further key areas include the legal foundations of tourism, safety aspects, tour planning, and obtaining a driver's license. Step by step, participants learn to independently design, organize, and conduct tours. Marketing and communication round out the program and provide targeted preparation for entering the tourism industry.

2nd year

Final examination

At the end of the second year, there is a comprehensive final phase in which the learned material is consolidated and applied in practice. First, students take an internal final exam at the school, demonstrating their knowledge in theory and practice – from tourism management and sustainability to independently planning and conducting tours. This is followed by an official government examination at the Uganda Tourism Bureau, in which participants complete the recognized Level 1 guide training. This qualification entitles them to work officially as tour guides. Upon successful graduation, students leave the school as qualified professionals who possess not only sound knowledge but also practical experience, a sense of responsibility, and a clear vision for the future of tourism in Uganda and Africa.
